– San Blas Islands –
Join Zingaro in one of the most beautiful places on the planet! The San Blas Islands of Panama! On this voyage we will sail between islands (normally 2-6 hours, during the day), navigate coral passes, anchor in tight spots, and learn what it’s REALLY like to cruise. Meet the local Kuna Indians and buy a souvenir ‘mola’ or bracelet, and they always have fresh caught lobster, crab, and fish when they visit! YUM!
Spend your days sailing, snorkeling, free diving, hanging out on the beach, and learning to spearfish with Captain James (3 spearguns aboard Zingaro). Every day will include cruiser training, where we go over the theory of an essential skill, then try it out in a real setting. You will learn:
- Proper anchoring techniques in many different scenarios
- How to receive and interpret weather
- Navigation and how to ‘read’ the water
- Everything safety and how to give a safety brief to crew
- Emergency preparedness and how to mitigate risk
- Sailing on/off anchor and moorings
- Sailing techniques for cruisers
- Splicing/whipping
The anchorages are normally very calm and protected, rolling on anchor is rare. This is a very good place for an introduction to sailing, if you’ve never sailed before, or if you’re not sure if you get seasick. Couples are welcome.
